Designer's Den | Alternative Coffee Tables

You have the sectional and TV console set up just how you want--but where will the coffee table fit? If your living room is feeling too cramped for a traditional one, check out these unexpected ways of using furniture and accessories to achieve the same function. From benches to poufs, these unique alternatives are short on space and big on style. Tune in!

When designing our homes, sometimes, we need to get creative. That's why we've put together a few alternative options for tables in your living room area when a traditional coffee table just isn't viable.

Our first alternative option is a storage bench, like the Navy Tufted Bench with Storage. If you live in a smaller space, this is a great option because it's narrow in depth, it doesn't take up a ton of room, it provides extra seatting, and it includes storage. At AFW, we know that every square inch matters and we believe this option is sure to be a success. If you eventually move into a larger space, you can easily repurpose this piece in front of a bed, window, or even in your entryway.

Another alternative to a traditional coffee table is a group of small accent tables, like the Yellow Metal Accent Table (Which also comes in red and blue). This is a great option for entertaining because you have three surface areas that can sit together as a big table or be separated and used for individual purpose.

Our last option we would like to share, and quite possibly our favorite, is using a pouf, like the Lapis Ivory Wool Poof or the Kaycee Cuboid Floor Pouf. Using poufs is great if you like relaxing with your feet up. Using a cluster of poufs instead of a coffee table offers lounging opportunities for you, your family, and your guests. These can also be used as individual drink tables. Adding a tray, like the Set of Two Blue Patterned Tray, adds dimension, function and style.
